Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League

On Saturday, the Mississippi Dynasty will host the Hiawayi Robinson Falcons in the Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League National Conference Championship Game for a chance to advance to the league championship.

For the Dynasty, they’re also looking to make history.

“I think it would be the first time a Mississippi team has ever made the APDFL Championship Game, if we get there,” Dynasty head coach Mike Lloyd told Developmental Football USA. “It would be good for our state.”

The Dynasty defeated the Falcons earlier this season 37-12 and if they can get by them just one more time, they’ll face the winner of the Opelika Chiefs and Prattville Patriots game for the league title.

“I’m just looking for our team to come out and play good football and represent Mississippi,” Lloyd said. “Winning a conference championship and making it to the league championship would be big for the organization and big for recruiting for next year and big for the organization as a whole.”

The Dynasty knocked off the Bounty Hunters last weekend 16-3 to advance to the semifinals, while the Falcons knocked off the Mobile Generals 36-12. The Falcons took 2016 off, but won the APDFL in 2014 and 2015, so they’re certainly no stranger to playing in big games such as this one.

“The Falcons travel well and they bring a lot of high energy,” Lloyd said. “They’re coming to play some hard-nosed football and we’re expecting them to throw the ball around and play solid defense. It’s going to take us playing great defense again to beat them. They have a pretty good offense that gave us some problems even. If our d-line plays good, we should be okay, but they do run the ball pretty good.”

Mississippi has one of the toughest defensive lines in the APDFL, led by Roy Williams, Keland Johnson and Louis Ellis.

“They’ve been pretty much dominant all season,” Lloyd said.

Offensively, look for running back Jabari Baker to get things going on the ground for the Dynasty.

“He’s pretty much carried the load in the close games we’ve had, behind our offensive line,” Lloyd said.

Mississippi has only lost one game in their home state in their three-year history, which was in 2016 to the eventual APDFL Champion, the Oklahoma City Bounty Hunters. If they can keep that streak alive, they will be playing for some hardware next weekend in New Orleans.

“It would be a big stepping stone for the Dynasty organization, for us coming out of a small league in Mississippi, pretty much beating all the teams here, then moving to a bigger league, having some close games in the APDFL in our first year, to now have a chance to play for the championship,” Lloyd said.
