GULF COAST GATORS RANKED #1

Fort Walton Beach, FL – Every week across the Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League (APDFL) teams find themselves in tough match ups. With highly competitive teams spread out across the league, simply maintaining a winning record can become a task. This has been evident over the past three weeks in the APDFL as the top seeded team has fallen in each of the previous two weekends.

The Mississippi Dynasty came into the 2018 season as the #1 ranked team and highly favored to repeat as National Presidents Cup Champions. In their first loss since opening weekend of the 2017 season, they came up short as they were defeated by the Crescent City Kings and were replaced at the top of the Power Rankings. Just one week removed and once again the top seed has fallen. This week the Kings were defeated by the Prattville Patriots for their first loss of the season and putting yet another 1 loss team atop the power rankings.

With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Gulf Coast Gators have taken over the top seed in the APDFL. I sat down with Gators Owner & Head Coach, Phil Carver, to discuss the Gators and their present position.

With the win this weekend the Gators move into the #1 spot in the power rankings. How do you keep the team focused?

We started our playoff run four weeks ago after a very disappointing and frustrating loss in New Orleans. I think that mindset should keep us focused plus this team is hungry!

Typically you hear of sleepers that top seeded teams don’t want to face going into the playoffs. Is there an opponent that you hope to not have to face?

We are that team! I really believe we are a matchup problem because of our versatility. We’ve really been able to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes, with 8 non-offensive TD’s thus far this season.

The Gators have had several people at the QB position during the regular season. How will you handle this situation going into the playoffs?

When Robbie Morse is healthy, he’s our guy. One thing we’ve learned from the injuries at the position this season is what some other guys are capable of. Joshua Nettles provides big play abilities in the run game, while AG Greenhill has starts (13-2 record) in this league and is very efficient when on the field.

Are there any stand out players that we should keep our eye on as we move into the playoffs that could determine the Gators outcome?

Keep an eye on the defensive front. Those guys could not wait to get after the former Ole Miss QB last night and will really drive our defensive efforts. DE’s Shaquille Campbell and Eugene Robinson along with our guys on the inside Dalvon Stuckey, TJ Boyet, and Sam Williams are all difference makers. We hope to add Rondrick Ragsdale back into the mix returning from a week one injury.

The Gators are a complete squad and are primed to make a deep run into the playoffs. Their immediate goal however, is too not become the 3rd top seeded team to fall in as many weeks.
