Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League

New Orleans, LA - The Crescent City Kings are certainly no stranger to big games and for the second consecutive week, they’ll be hosting a big game in the Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League. This time, the No. 2 Kings face the No. 5 Augusta Ducks in New Orleans.

“The Ducks appear to be well-coached and very athletic,” Kings head coach Frederick Washington told Developmental Football USA. “They are multifaceted on offense with a lot of speed and the defense swarms to the ball and tackles well. In close games, we have to keep our composure and execute. We almost lost sight of that last week. This week is a chance to grow. If we learn from our mistakes, we will have a good chance to be victorious.”

Augusta comes in with the focus on traveling well and playing Ducks football – the same approach that has built them into one of the top brands in the country over the past four years.

“I know very little about the Kings,” Ducks owner Chris Bradley told Developmental Football USA. “I know very little, to the point that they came from a tough league last season and they’re from New Orleans. That’s about it. I haven’t been able to watch film on them.”

On paper, the Ducks are undefeated, due to a Week 1 loss being overruled by the league because of rule violations from the other team. Since giving up that lead against the Alabama Blackhawks, then Ducks have rolled. Now, they find themselves in great position heading into the second half of their schedule, where they should be big favorites in at least four of their remaining six games.

“To beat the Kings, it will take 60 minutes of our team playing together,” Bradley said. “We are on the road far from home, so it’ll start from the kickoff until the clock hits 0:00. We have absolutely no time for mistakes and we have to jump ahead early.”

Each big win over the years has been a brick to the foundation the Ducks continue to build and by all accounts, one over the Kings – in New Orleans – would be a very big one.

“A road win in New Orleans versus a tough team like the Kings will be a confidence booster for the most part, but we can’t take one game away from our goal,” Bradley said. “Our goal is to be holding The President’s Cup on June 30.”

The Ducks will face off against one of two Kings teams, will it be the one that struggled last week and nearly suffered its first loss of the season or will the beast be woken and ready to make a statement?

Last weekend, the Kings found themselves down against the then-No. 6 Mobile Generals, but then showed why they’re the No. 2 team in the APDFL and the top team in the state of Louisiana by battling back for the win.

“We didn’t play our best game and it put us in a hole,” Washington said. “During the game, we tried our best to tread water until an opportunity presented itself. Keywan Bullock and Luke Corass made game-changing interceptions in the fourth quarter. With the game on the line, our offense made a crucial play to give us the lead.

“Last week, we learned that getting out of character makes everyone’s job more difficult. When we play within ourselves we have the potential to go far.”

A win is always the goal for both teams preparing for any game, but even a win would just be one step towards bigger goals for both programs.

“We treat every team the same, no matter the record, you have to respect them,” Bradley said. “We take one game at a time and in our young existence as a franchise, we have played pretty well in our road games. Everyone’s rankings mean nothing to us until we raise that trophy, which is our main focus.”
