Wreckaz and Blackhawks face-off in Game of the Week

Parrish, AL - As always, fans will not want to miss the Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League Game of the Week. In fact, this week has the chance to be the best one yet as the No. 3 P-Town Wreckaz host the No. 4 Alabama Blackhawks.

“This game is very big,” Wreckaz owner Nick Hammond told Developmental Football USA. “This is by far our best competition so far this season. Both teams exhibit great talent and the ability to score at a rapid rate.”

After opening up the season with a four-point win over the Tuskegee Ayrmen, the Wreckaz rolled their next two opponents, 43-6 over the Louisiana Tigers and 42-6 over the Arkansas Steelers – both games expected to be closer – before taking a forfeit win against the Metro Eagles.

The Blackhawks – who are the APDFL’s biggest surprise team so far by a longshot – came into the season ranked No. 22, but a big comeback performance against the Augusta Ducks Week 1 quickly got people’s attention. Each week, Alabama looks even better as they’ve added wins of 34-6, 42-8 and 60-0 against solid, mid-ranked teams since then.

“Defensively, it’s going to be a challenge to stop either offense,” Hammond said. “Also, both teams have great defense, so it’s going to be up to the coaches to outcoach one another. The players have to simply outplay one another. Heart is going to win this ball game.”

Heart very well be the difference as both teams come into this game piled pretty deep with talent.

“We expect effort from them,” Fletcher said. “Dustin Wood is a great receiver and we know him well along with a few more guys on their team. For us, it will take playing as a team and executing. Simple as that.

“Each individual that has a Blackhawks jersey on will have to do their role in order to give us the best chance to win. Defense has to continue to stop opponents and our offense has to continue scoring touchdowns.”

While a league championship is the ultimate goal for each team, the winner of this game will establish themselves as the team to beat in the American Conference, which is certainly the next step towards a title.

“Our expectations are to win games and compete for a championship,” Blackhawks owner James Fletcher told Developmental Football USA. “So far, we are on track for those expectations. Goals are simple, win one week at a time. This game is big in many ways. First, it is a conference game and this win will help in regards to conference standings and playoff seeding. Second, in-town foes. They are new to the league and we would be more than happy to give them a warm welcome.”

Saturday will be interesting as both teams look to hit the target on each other’s back and bump them a bit down the rankings. The scene is set for one team to make a serious statement.

“I expect nothing but the best from the Blackhawks,” Hammond said. “They are a very talented team that plays together and is coached really well. We will have to have all our weapons firing on all cylinders to pull this victory out. We expect them to come out and play their brand of football and we expect to come out and play our brand of football. May the best team win.”
