Eastern Powerhouse: Columbus Storm’s Path to the Championship

The Columbus Storm have proven once again why hey are among the most respected programs in the APDFL. In their postseason opener, they delivered a dominant 46-0 win over the Alabama Wardawgs, showcasing their defensive discipline and offensive firepower.

In the Eastern Conference Championship, they squared off against the top-seeded Clarksville Chiefs. In a game defined by strategy, heart, and grit, Columbus edged out a 20-14 victory that came down to the final possession. That win cemented their place in the National Presidents Cup Championship.

Exclusive with Storm Head Coach, Brad Warren

What has been the biggest factor in your team's postseason success this year?
Preparation and focus. We went into this season understanding that we would be the hunted. Everyone wants to knock off the defending champs. In the playoffs, it’s magnified 1000 times. We’ve gone into our last two games having experienced every challenge imaginable. Those challenges kept us grounded and made us hungry.

How are you preparing for the Vikings' offensive attack?
Watching film! We have to be disciplined in our gap and coverage assignments. They throw a lot of formations at you and put pressure on defenses to adjust. We must recognize personnel and formations early and get into the right defense. Then, we have to play fast and physical.

Describe the mindset of your locker room heading into the championship.
Our team mindset is… We’re here, why not us? One of the hardest things to do in sports is to win back-to-back championships. Again, we’ve been fighting all the narratives and negativity that come with defending a title. Now that we’re here, the thought process is to finish on top.

What does it mean to the Columbus community to see the Storm back in the championship?
The community has really embraced our journey. Competing and winning at a high level has shined a positive light on the Columbus Storm and semi-pro football. One of the local TV stations, WTVM, aired a story on our Conference Championship win. Ever since then, we have been receiving a lot of positive feedback and well wishes on our pursuit of another championship.

What message do you have for your fans and supporters as you head to the championship?
My message to our fans and supporters is a genuine and heartfelt “Thank You!!!!” You have been amazing all season and we would not be where we are without you. We know if you can’t make the game in person, you will be with us in spirit. Your support means the world to us and we love you!!!!
