Kick-off Classic Canceled

Mobile, AL – In an attempt to unify developmental football, Amateur to Professional Developmental Football League (APDFL) came up just short this season in the annual Commissioners Kickoff Classic. A change in the annual kickoff classic proved to be disappointing and led to a decision of firsts.

As APDFL looked to form unity in the annual kickoff classic against opponents from the IAFLX, the games were forced to be canceled due to the home team, Port City Vikings of the IAFLX, pulling out of the event late Friday evening. “The agreement to participate in the event and the four teams that would play was decided back in November,” said APDFL commissioner Bernard Hunt. “It’s disappointing to say the least,” Hunt added.

This marks the first time in eleven years that the Commissioners Kickoff Classic will not be played. “Two things ring clear,” said Hunt. “Had we scheduled the event to be inter-league as usual, this would have never taken place. In hindsight, we just have to ensure we continue to operate within. When others are brought into the mix, it’s hard for things to be regulated. APDFL doesn’t allow teams to cancel games at their leisure nor do we allow teams to turn regular season games into preseason games, we can’t say that about everyone.”

APDFL will kick off the regular season with “opening weekend” on Saturday, March 4th. Opening weekend will showcase the Bayou Lacombe Cardinals at Crescent City Kings in the game of the week. A new season is upon us and it’s sure to be another exciting season.
