Faced with concerns and uncertainties over COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the impact on its games, its organizations and its extended family of players, coaches and fans, the APDFL suspended the 2020 spring season Friday indefinitely.

“The APDFL will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic,” the league announce. “We have plans set in place to move forward with a summer season to kick off this July.”

The trigger for the season ending suspension was the extension of the stay at home order put into place by the CDC. Earlier during the week, the APDFL Board of Directors met via teleconference to discuss the virus, the safety of those involved and proposed scenarios for dealing with the health threat and various options of completing the season.

“Suspending the season isn’t about football”, said APDFL Commissioner Bernard Hunt. “Everyone wants to play football and everyone wants to watch football at the same time, we have to put the safety of our members first. We have to make sure we are doing this the right way because it’s much more personal.”

Suspending a season in progress is entirely new. In their short 8 year history, the APDFL has never missed a week of scheduled games. 2020 has added yet another first to the APDFL record books.
