Gators chomp Vipers!

The Gulf Coast Gators faced the Bayou Vipers in the teams APDFL debut on Saturday. The Gators got things rolling early with a 46 yard strike from QB Robbie Morse to RB Tray Williams on the opening play of the game. The drive would stall in the red zone however when Morse's 4th down pass intended for WR Jordan Ewing fell just out of reach.

The Gators got the scoring started when Morse found WR Franklin Harvey on a quick slant where Harvey split defenders and outran the Vipers secondary for six! Labarron Mallory capped the scoring drive with a successful two-point conversion pass to TE Allen Greenhill. The Vipers would answer late in the second quarter to close the gap to 8-6 Gators at the half.

In the second half, after a controversial fumble where Gators WR Harvey appeared to be down, the Vipers scooped up the loose ball and raced to the Gators eight yard line. The Vipers would take advantage of the short field and score on a pass play to take a 12-8 lead. The Gators would answer a few possessions later when CB Dee Garrett fielded a punt of the bounce and blazed his way 73 yards to the end zone to give the Gators a 14-12 advantage. RB Jamarius Green added the two-point conversion run for a 16-12 lead.

Garrett would provide the Gators with another big play as he snagged his second interception of the night in the end zone to thwart the Vipers comeback attempt to seal the Gator home opener victory 16-12!

The Gators (1-0) will host the Mobile Generals (1-0) next Saturday at Meigs Stadium in Shalimar at 5pm.
